Business Owner Wants to Have Fun
(reprinted from the West Bend New , July 1997)
Demler increases scope of operation
A new corporation name will lead to an increase in services offered
by a local businesswoman. Carol Demler Financial Services of West Bend
has officially been renamed CDFS, an intentionally ambiguous name. In
addition to continuing the operation of Carol Demler Financial Services,
Demler will also do business as Carol Demler’s Fun Stays. After nearly
two decades in the insurance business, Demler said she welcomes the
chance to sideline in a business that focuses on “fun”. Her love of
travel prompted the creation of Fun Stays, an agency aimed at providing
affordable vacation accommodations at timeshare condominiums.
Carol and her husband Steve Demler recognized 12 years ago that
their shared interest in travel could put a strain on their family
budget. They purchased a timeshare condominium in Wisconsin Dells. Two
years later, the Demlers purchased a second unit in Panama City Beach,
which they sold when they bought a larger timeshare unit in Daytona
Beach. They didn’t stop there. In 1994, the Demlers bought a condo in
Myrtle Beach, S. C. And another one near Wisconsin Dells, both of which
offered the capability to do 52 weeks of timesharing. Because the
Demlers couldn’t travel enough to utilize all of the properties, the
Dells and Myrtle Beach condos were placed on a rental program, Carol
Demler said.
The Demlers became associated with C.A.R.E. (Cooperative Association
of Resort Exchange), a networking system of resort developers, vacation
wholesalers, travel clubs and timeshare exchangers throughout the world.
Working through C.A.R.E., Fun Stays will add a new twist to timeshare
exchanging. A person owning a timeshare or comparable vacation property
will be able to execute an exchange through Fun Stays at a discounted
rate compared to international travel exchange associations, Demler
said. But Fun Stays’ primary market is clients who don’t have timeshares
and would like to take part in the exchange process anyway, Demler said.
The total cost of a vacation week through Fun Stays will be between
$300 and $500*, depending on time of year, size of units and level of
demand for the requested destination, Demler said. Fun Stays will have
no membership fee and clients won’t have to pay until vacation
accommodations are confirmed. Fun Stays won’t be the primary focus of
CDFS, but it is one that Demler said she eagerly anticipates. “I am
looking forward to adding ‘fun’ to my business,” she said.
